    'CANTONMENT STEVENS-LOOKING WESTWARD'  CIRCA 1855.
    THE CANTONMENT (TEMPORARY ENCAMPMENT) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1853 BY LT. JOHN MULLAN
    NEAR WHAT WHAT IS NOW STEVENSVILLE, MT.  THE CAMP IS ON THE LEFT WITH THE FLAG--AREA TO
    THE RIGHT WITH TEEPEES IS PROBABLY FORT OWEN.  THE CAMP WAS ABANDONED IN 1854.
    THE BEAUTIFULLY DETAILED, HAND-COLORED  PRINT IS 8 x11.25-THE IMAGE IS 6 x 9.  ESPECIALLY
    INTERESTING ARE THE SMALL FIGURES GOING ABOUT THEIR DAILY ACTIVITIES.
