A superb and rare photo of the
Harley-Davidson WR / WRTT sidevalve racer of 1947, with Jimmy Chann.
This photograph was taken just after the 1947 Daytona 200 race. The year 1947 was a great year for Jimmy Chann. He won the Springfield Mile, that year, and would repeat that in 1948 and 1949. He was one of Harley ‘s most successful riders in the period just after WWII. During the 1950’s he became a research and development rider for Harley’s racing department. He was born in
Millville
,
NJ
, in 1915.
Chann is sitting on a WR side valve racer.  The sheet that came with the negative indicates it is a “ WRL “, specially prepared by the racing department. The bike has foot shift, which is not common on the stock WR’s, so the description could be true. Nevertheless, it is a very rare and historic image. A great present, great for framing!
