A superb and rare photo of the famous Ducati 750 Sport from 1973.
The Ducati 750 S had a cylinder capacity of
748cc(45.64 cubic inches. It delivered a power output of 68.39 hp (49.9 kW)) at 5.250 rpm. It featered a 5-speed gearbox. The dry weight was
192.0 kg
(
423.3 pounds
). Front tire dimensions were 3.25-19 and rear tyre dimensions were 3.50-18. At the front a single Scarab disc was mounted, at the rear a drumbrake was present. The topspeed was
121.8 mph
(
196 km/h
). This magnificent machine had a power to weight ratio of 0.3562 hp/kg!
The new Ducati 750S created a big stir, as it was based on the machine that brought Ducati the legendary victory at the
200 miles
race of Imola in 1972. This was debut race of Ducati’s new 750 desmodromic V-twin, with its bevel driven overhead camshafts. Works riders Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari dominated the numerous factory teams in the race, finishing 1st and 2nd on modified race versions of the 750SS streetbike. It gave instant fame to Ducati’s V-twin sporting models –a fame that lasts still today! At the time it was one of, if not the, ultimate Italian cafe racers!
Interestingly, Ducati entered in 2005 the Sport Classics series in production. One of them is the Sport 1000 Sport Classic . This machine is a tribute to the 1973 Ducati 750 Sport that is featured on this nice photo, making this photo a must for any modern or classic Ducati enthusiast!
