    Description

    A superb and rare photo of the famous multiple World Champion
    Phil Read
    testing the
    500cc Ducati Grand Prix V-twin desmo racer
    on the British circuit of
    Brands Hatch
    in
    June 1971
    .
    A few months later, in August 1971, both Read and Bruno Spaggiari rode the Ducati 500cc GP desmo racers at Silverstone.
    The 500cc Ducati V-twin desmo racer of 1971 was the first V-twin that Fabio Taglioni designed for the Ducati factory in
    Bologna
    ,
    Northern Italy
    . It was the direct forefather of the 750cc that won the epic race 200 miles race at Imola in 1972. The bevel driven production Ducati’s that were entered in production afterwards all date back to the 500cc V-twin desmodromic GP racer of 1971, as seen on the photo!
    The photo is very historic, as the Ducati V-twin racer was a true novelty and no one other then Phil Read tested and raced it in 1971 on a few occasions. It is an extremely rare photo!
    Multiple World Champion Phil Read needs no further introduction, underneath a list of his world championships:
    1964:
    250cc World Championship on Yamaha;
    1965:
    250cc
    World Championship on Yamaha;
    1968:
    125cc World Championship on Yamaha;
    1968:
    250cc World Championship on Yamaha;
    1971:
    250cc World Championship on Yamaha;
    1973:
    500cc World Championship on MV Agusta;
    1974:
    500cc World Championship on MV Agusta.
    In total Phil won 52 Grand Prix races. 10 in the 125cc class, 27 in the 250cc class, 4 in the 350cc class and 11 in the 500cc class.
