Description
A superb and rare photo of theBSA works racing legend, Dick Mann after finishing first
in the
Daytona 200
race in
1971
. From left to right we see
Gene Romero on his Triumph who finished 2nd
,
Dick Mann on his winning BSA and his teammate and 3
rd
place finisher, Don Emde
.
B.S.A. triple 750cc Rocket 3 factory racers were prepared by Doug Hele and Bert Hopwood, yet another couple of most famous names of the British motorcycle industry.
Dick Mann would win the race
with his absolutely magnificent riding style, followed by Romero on a Triumph 750 Trident factory racing triple (similar to the BSA) and Don Emde, Mann’s teammate who finished 3rd.
The photo was taken just after the start of that famous race.
A year before this photo was taken, during the 1970 French Bol d’Or endurance race, Paul Smart and Tom Dickie won the race with a similar machine. During this race T
om Dickie earned the bike its illustrious nickname: Slippery Sam.
The three riders on the photo are amongst the best riders the motorcycle world has ever known.
In many ways this is a very historic
non period
photo
that reflects a most historic racing victory by BSA and Dick Mann. It definitely is a classic shot. It is rare to obtain a photo like this, therefore it is printed in a nice large format of approx. 8" x 10" (
20 x 26
cm). It is great the way it is, and would look gorgeous when framed.
