    Description

A superb and rare image of the 250cc
    B.M.W. R 25/3
    which was in production in
    1955
    .
The BMW single cylinder machines formed a very successful and interesting model line for the famous Bavarian motorcycle factory. BMW started up motorcycle production again after World War II in 1948. Their first model to be produced was the BMW R24 single. BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG) introduced the first motorcycle under its name, the R32, in 1923. The end of World War II found BMW in ruins. Its plant outside of
    Munich
was destroyed by Allied bombing. The
    Eisenach
facility was not. After the war the terms of
    Germany
's surrender forbade BMW from manufacturing motorcycles. When the ban on the production of motorcycles was lifted in Allied controlled
    Western Germany
, BMW had to start from scratch. There were no plans, blueprints, or schematic drawings because they were all in
    Eisenach
. Company engineers had to use surviving pre-war motorcycles to copy the bikes. The first post-war BMW motorcycle in
    Western Germany
, a R24 was produced in 1948. The R24 was based on the pre-war R23, and was the only postwar West German BMW with no rear suspension.
BMW introduced the R25 model, with plunger rear suspension, in 1950. The last of the plunger models, the
    BMW R25/3
, was introduced in 1953 and is visible on the photo that the winner of this auction will receive!
The image has a nice large
    non period
    photo - ca. 8" x 12" (ca. 20 cm
x 30 cm), perfect the way it is, perfect for framing as well!
