A superb and rare image of a typical German 1930’s racing scene, showing with number 50 German Georg (Schorsch) Meier on the famous 500cc BMW Kompressor Supercharged factory racer. The negative dates from 1939, and gives a great period view of the most forceful contenders that competed in the German racing scene at the time, as right from Meier we see a NSU 500 Bullus (number 56) ; and with number
19 a
DKW 500 two cylinder two stroke. Quite an amazing and definitely a very historic first starting line!
Furthermore visible are a great number of BMW private racing machines, none of which were supercharged, and some Norton International racing machines.
It is a very nice photo, that reflects a wonderful era of
Germany
