A very historic and nice photo, as
the Benelli 750 Sei
(= Italian for “
six
“) was the
first ever
six cylinder production motorcycle. The six cylinders each had a bore and stroke of 50 x 50.6mm, delivering a capacity of
747.7cc
. The single overhead camshaft engine delivered a power output of
71 bhp at 8,500 r.p.m.
The first prototype was shown as early as 1972.
The photo shows Keith Martin in action on the Isle of Man TT circuit in 1976. As we can see, he just cornered
Parliament Square
in the town of
Ramsey
. Soon he will turn out of the village on his way to the Ramsey Hairpin. The Mountain section of that magnificent circuit is ahead!
As per regulations, Martin’s 750 Benelli six is mostly standard. Main modifications were the seat and fairing, the large alloy fuel tank and the six open megaphones… What a great sound this machine must have delivered!
